Grading the WikiThis is a featured page

Whether or not a collaborative assignment such as a wiki should be graded is debatable. I have decided to include the Wiki (and the accompanying blog) into my course grade. Below is the method I have devised. Students seem to like having the wiki count as part of their grade, as was evident in their course evaluations last semester.

Below, you can see how the Wiki is included into my students' grades.

The Wiki and the Blog as part of your grade in AP Economics
  • 20% of your grade in AP Economics is based on your contributions to both the Wiki and the Blog.
  • During each unit, you must:
    • contribute to at least THREE pages in that unit's Wiki and,
    • post comments to at least THREE articles on the blog relating to the topics covered in that unit.
  • Additionally, you must contribute to two specific pages in each unit's wiki:
    • "AP Econ in the News" and,
    • "Student Thought Forum"
  • Your Blog/Wiki grade for each Unit will be determined based on the following:
    1. Contributed to at least three pages from the the current Unit's Wiki- 3 points
    2. Commented on at least three blog articles relating to the current unit - 3 points
    3. Posted an article link to the current unit's "AP Econ in the News" page - 2 points
    4. Posted at least one thought or idea to the current unit's "Student Thought Forum" - 2 points
    • Total Wiki/Blog grade for each unit - 10 points

How do I know if students actually contribute to three wiki pages and comment on three blog posts? At the end of each unit every student will submit a "Unit Blog Log" in which they fill out the following table:

Directions: For each Unit, identify the specific articles you commented on, the specific Wiki pages you posted to, and indicated whether or not you posted to the two pages, “AP Econ in the News” and “Student Thought Forum”.

The SAS Academic Honesty Code applies to this portion of your AP course. Any student found to be dishonest will be given a zero for the unit’s grade.

2points is awarded based on the overall completion of the unit’s Wiki (see below for details). Mr. Welker and Ms. Close will judge the overall quality and completion of the Wiki and a common score will be awarded to all AP students in this category. Print this out, fill it in, and turn it in with your test and homework.
