Welcome to Learning the Wiki Way
This workshop will demonstrate techniques for using a wiki as a more dynamic and interactive alternative to a class website, a substitute for pen and paper homework assignments, a forum for communication about class related topics, a way to hold online exam review sessions, and a comprehensive, collaborative, student created course study guide.
Attendees will be shown several examples of uses for a class Wiki, and introduced to the multiple "widgets" that can be added to make the wiki experience more engaging, entertaining and interesting for students.
This workshop is not a "how to create a wiki" presentation. Any wiki provider you choose will have detailed tutorials to guide you in the basic process of creating a wiki.
In this presentation, you will learn several ways a wiki can be used to enhance learning in your class. These include:
- Information Dissemination
- Resource sharing
- Student created content
- Online exam review through chat
- Polling students
- Course evaluations
Finally, you'll have the chance to practice entering and editing text, images, videos, sound, etc. on this very wiki!
Welker's Wikis: The following wikis are ones I use with my students, and will be referre to throughout this presentation.
- Welker's Wikinomics - for my AP Economics students
- History Happening - for my grade 9 Asian History students
- Sichuan Cycling Adventure - for students going on the SAS China Alive cycling trip in Sichuan Province
- SAS Global Issues Group - for students involved with a service club I supervise
Articles I've written about using a Wiki in my Economics course:

- A semester of learning the Wiki way - student (and teacher) reflections
